HUNDREDS of people stepped out into warm summer sunshine to Enjoy the Colwall Ale House Festival.

The event included everything from a cavalcade of classic cars, driven by proud owners, to a unique attraction - Colwall's own Red Barrows formations display team.

And the event was a great success, raising some £6,000 for the maintenance of the historic Ale House and the church.

Sue Armstrong, one of the organisers, said: "It was a lovely festival that really brought the Colwall community together on a glorious summer's day.

"The £6,000 is just the money that we raised ourselves; there were plenty of stallholders for charities such as Marie Curie and Guide Dogs for the Blind, and I understand they did pretty well as well."

Among the activities on offer were a mountain bike challenge, surf simulator, pentathlon and archery.

And stalls selling all kinds of food and drink - mostly local - from bread and wine, to scotch eggs, luxury drinks and more, also did well.

One of the biggest attractions was the Red Barrows, who amazed onlookers with their tightly-choreographed wheelbarrow stunt display.

Mrs Armstrong said: "There's a long list of people who we should help for all their efforts to make the festival a success, but I must especially thank Colwall Rotary, whose volunteers organised and marshalled the classic car cavalcade, set up and took down the tensts and ran the barbecue.

"My neighbour described it best when she said it was a magical village event."
