The President opened the meeting with all singing Jerusalem, she then handed cards to the ‘birthday girls’. Minutes were read with a reminder of the workshops and outing organized.

The result of the resolution entitled ‘Appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia’. Votes cast in favour: 4,920. Votes cast against: 1,274

The resolution was passed with 79.4%

The resolution entitled ‘Avoid food waste, address food poverty’

Votes cast in favour: 5,146. Votes cast against: 1,080. The resolution passed with 82.7%. It was said that most waste was produced from the home, also felt supermarkets could do a lot more by keeping better stock control.

The speaker, Mrs Doreen Jeeves, outlined the formation of the Association Country Women of the World, ACWW said that it originated from the Women’s Institute in 1933 at the time when Madge Watts was Chairman, with Headquarters based in London.

The organization has 460 member societies registered within 70 countries. ACWW is committed to raising the health and standard of living of rural women and their families throughout the world.

Active support is offered for a wide range of crucial development programmes in rural communities. These opportunities and programmes include: leadership and skill training, nutrition and education, literacy and basic education, including family planning and HIV/Aids awareness, offering small business initiatives and small-scale agricultural income-generating programmes.

ACWW is non-sectarian, non-political, forward looking and friendly, it has UN representation. It believes in empowerment of women by: Advocacy, funding community development projects and training programmes with sponsorship funds coming from WI Members and other partnerships.

The next Triennial two-day meeting takes place 28th August 2016 at Warwick University.
