POLICE have seized 300 cannabis plants during a raid on an underground drugs farm.

Officers carried out a warrant at rural location in Cookley, near Kidderminster at around 11am this morning (Friday) and discovered the plants in a partially buried metal container.

A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis. The estimated yield of the plants is worth around £200,000.

The suspect remains in custody at the police station in Kidderminster as investigations, including forensic work, continues on the case.

Detective Inspector Stu Murphy of the Priority CID team said the container was around the size of an articulated lorry and powered by a generator.

DI Murphy said: "It was quite a sophisticated set-up. We are recovering more and more of these cannabis grows in both urban and rural locations.

"If you're out there growing cannabis in whatever location and if we receive intelligence or information we will act promptly as we have seen with today's result.

"I would welcome any information from the public or to hear any concerns from local communities who think this activity is going on."
