TOP pop rock and bands wowed the crowds at a new music festival this weekend.

Among the performers at the inaugural Mello Festival at Throckmorton Airfield, near Pershore, were the Levellers and Lemar.

Other performers at the festival which ends today (Sunday) were The Blockheads and punk rock band The Dolls.

The Festival began on Friday at 5pm starting with DJ Spencer Lowe, before closing at 10.30pm on Sunday with a DJ Finale with the Mello Allstars.

Festival spokesman Steve High said on Saturday: "I have been really pleased with how the festival is going, we have well exceeded our target ticket sales of 1,000 and everyone is having a really good time.

"There is a really good family atmosphere today and all the acts so far have been brilliant.

"The Levellers have sold particularly well and there is a lot of interest in Lemar."

Claire Hemingway from Malvern performing with punk rock band Jupitronz said: "The festival has been really enjoyable so far and I loved performing earlier.

"Being the first act of the day, people were just waking up but people seemed to enjoy it.

"We feel we have quite a unique style and don't try to base our performances on anyone."

As well as over 40 music acts, the festival also featured a number of attractions for children, including a bouncy castle and Polly's Party Bus.

Polly's Party Bus for 6-14 year olds included Xbox's, Lego games and a face painting area.

As well as the kids zone, a food village serving cuisine from various parts of the world also helped to make the event family friendly.

Also on show at the festival was entertainment such as archery and circus skills.

Attendees at the festival dressed in a mixture of glitter, eccentric shirts and bright wigs.

Festival goer Mike Fletcher, who was wearing a colourful onesie for his birthday at the Festival whilst attending with friend said: "The Festival has been good so far, the Airfield should be used more because its a wide-open space.

"I am really looking forward to seeing Baby D later and the GT's on Friday were really impressive.

"I didn't choose to wear this onesie, my misses made me wear it for my birthday!"
