AN Upton couple showed they could scale the heights for charity when they impressively climbed one of Britain's highest mountains at night.

In March, the Worcester News reported on Adam Staite and partner Trish Deuchar, who were preparing for the night-time climb of Mount Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales and highest point in Britain outside the Scottish Highlands.

The vice-president, and former player, of Upton Rugby Club, and his partner were inspired to take part in the challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society after Mr Staite's 65 year-old mother was diagnosed with the disease last year.

The build up to event included regular walks of the Malvern Hills to build up the pair's fitness, and stamina.

The couple completed the challenge on Friday, May 13, starting out at 11.30pm and reaching the summit around three hours later, in the early hours of May 14.

Mr Staite, 36, said: "There were 280 people taking part. It was minus 7C, with the wind chill in the clouds.

"We reached the summit at 2.30am - just long enough for a can of Pimms and a quick photo.

"We raised about £1,600 towards an expected event total of approximately £200,000 when everything is collected and counted."
