THE United Reformed Church in Malvern Link will be marking the Queen's Birthday with a coffee morning on Friday, April 22, featuring special floral decorations.

Church members have created royal-themed flower arrangements, incorporating appropriate pictures and souvenirs, for each of the windowsills.

Visitors are welcome to see the decorations and enjoy coffee and light refreshments between 10am to 11.30am.

Also this week, pupils from St Matthias CE Primary School in Malvern Link were out and about in the community, picking up litter in the lead-up to the Queen's birthday.

Malvern Hills District Council lend the school litter-picking equipment, and they made good use of it, filling a number of bin-bags with rubbish found in local streets.

Tracey Hodgkins of the school said: "We are receiving lots of positive comments from the local community when undertaking the litter picks, thanking us for cleaning up the rubbish."

The Worcestershire Beacon will be the focus of celebrations tomorrow evening, with the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire Patrick Holcroft leading a procession of civic dignitaries to the summit for the lighting of a beacon, one of more that 1,000 to be lit across the country.

Another bonfire will be lit at Severn End, Hanley Castle, which is planned to be visible from the Worcestershire Beacon and also from Bredon Hill, site of another beacon.
