FILM classics will be coming to a park near you in Malvern this summer in the town's first-ever season of outdoor movie screenings.

The season follows the successful screening last September of Jaws, when over 300 people gathered to watch Steven Spielberg' s chiller in the open air in Priory Park.

The season opens at Priory Park on Sunday, May 1, with the evergreen musical Singin’ In The Rain, starting at 6.30pm, following a performance by the Film Concert Orchestra, which will play popular tunes from the film and other classic movies.

Cllr Phil Grove, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said “This debut film is the launch of a series of outdoor cinema experiences that will add yet another fun and enjoyable event to the town. We expect it to be very popular, so get your tickets quickly."

The season continues on Sunday, June 5, when Rose Bank Gardens will be the venue for the wartime drama Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

And on Sunday, July 24, another Spielberg classic, ET, will be screened at Victoria Park in Malvern Link.

The remaining film shows are back in Priory Park, with 80s comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on Sunday, August 21, The Blues Brothers, starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, on Sunday, September 18, and groundbreaking sci-fi spectacle Blade Runner on Sunday, October 2, to mark the opening of the 2016 Festival of Innovation, Tickets for all the screenings are available from the Malvern Theatres box office and cost £8.50 or £5 for concessions. Refreshments will be available at the shows.

The event is a collaboration between the district council, Malvern Town Council and Malvern Theatres.
