REMARKABLY only one person was injured despite a dramatic three car crash in Worcester which saw a woman cut free from her car.

Two of the vehicles were severely damaged in the London Road crash, a Renault Clio and a Ford Focus, while the third car involved, a BMW, was removed or driven from the scene soon after the crash.

Fire crews from Worcester attended the scene, near the Tesco Express store, and cut off the roof to the Ford Focus to rescue a woman driver.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with neck pains.

One witness, Kate Johns, said "Just watched a team of very skilled fire fighters remove the roof of the car to rescue the driver.

"We are so lucky to have such amazing emergency services, paramedics, ambulance, fire and police.

"Well done everyone."

The crash, which happened around 1pm yesterday (Wednesday), saw the road closed for nearly three hours in both directions.

This added to the traffic problems on the road, which currently has a temporary traffic light system in operation at the opposite end of the road, leading to the motorway access.

It was eventually reopened at around 3.45pm.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police confirmed that there were no other injuries to anyone else.

He said: "Police were called shortly after 1.05pm to reports of a three car crash on London Road.

"A black BMW 5 series, a grey Ford Focus estate and a blue Renault Clio have been involved in a collision close to Tesco Express.

"Fire and ambulance services have also attended and one driver is being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, no reports of any further injuries."

An ambulance and two rapid response units also attended the scene.
