A cyclist in his 60s was airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a car last night in Malvern.

The crash happened on the junction Sherrards Green Road and Pickersleigh Road and resulted in a severe chest injury for the cyclist.

The 64 year-old was treated at the roadside before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham.

An ambulance, a responder paramedic, a paramedic area support officer, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended.

It happened around 5.30pm, on Thursday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The elderly man had been riding his push bike when he was in collision with a car. When ambulance staff arrived they were told by passers-by he had suffered no loss of consciousness.

"Upon assessment, the man was found with a chest injury which required treatment at the roadside by the doctor and ambulance staff. He was also given oxygen therapy and once stabilised the man was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, a major trauma centre, for further treatment."
