STAFF from the Chase School, Malvern, celebrated the publication of English teacher Olivia Levez’s debut novel, The Island, by attending her book launch at Waterstone’s High Street branch in Birmingham.

Teachers from the English and other departments piled on to the 5.09 pm service from Great Malvern to b Birnmingham to attend the event on Friday, March 11.

The book is an adventure story, aimed at young adults of thirteen and above, and tells the story of Frances, a teenage castaway struggling to come to terms with her past as she battles with survival.

Guests at the Waterstone’s launch were treated to an array of castaway-inspired food, including book-cover cupcakes made by Food Technology teacher Faye Borthwick.

Mrs Levez managed to get through the experience without a hitch, being able to negotiate simultaneously holding the microphone and turning the pages of her book, smoothly answering all the questions from the audience during the question-and-answer session.

The Island is published by Oneworld, and is available to buy at all major bookshops. It is also available at a special Chase discount price of £6 from the Malvern Book Co-op, St Ann's Road.
