MALVERN residents are being urged to join the biggest clean-up the country has ever seen to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.

Clean for the Queen aims to get one million people nationwide tidying up their area ahead of Her Majesty reaching the landmark, on April 21.

Individuals and community organisations are being encouraged to carry out litter picks in their area throughout February and March with a mass clean-up planned in places across the country over the weekend of 4 to 6 March.

Malvern Hills District Council is backing the campaign by loaning litter picking equipment to those who want to hold clean-ups where they live. All equipment will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

People are being urged to nominate a potential ‘grot spot’ they would like the team to consider tackling. Suggestions can be posted on our Facebook page, tweeted to @MHDCcomms or emailed to claire.vaughan@malvernhills.gov.uk

Councillor Barbara Williams, chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Our staff already litter pick our town centres and other areas on a regular basis but we can’t be everywhere at once.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to join together to make our towns and villages cleaner places to live and I’d encourage as many individuals, community groups and organisations as possible to take part in Clean for the Queen."

Anyone interested holding their own Clean for the Queen litter pick in their area should email claire.vaughan@malvernhills.gov.uk or call 01684 862449.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 19 February.
