FIRE and ambulance services have attended a road traffic collision at Raycome Road, Old Colwall, near Malvern, after a heavy goods vehicle carrying Tarmac crashed into a tree.

Crews from Malvern and Ledbury were called out at 10.40am today, Friday January 15, along with crews from Droitwich and Hereford carrying specialist cutting equipment and winches.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford carrying a trauma doctor and critical care practitioner attended following the ‘999’ call.

A chainsaw was used on the tree which prevented rescue teams from release the driver.

With the tree felled, hydraulic jacks were used to push free the cab of the lorry. The driver managed to get out himself.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man had leg injuries which, fortunately, appeared not to be serious. Considering the level of damage to the cab of his lorry, he was lucky. He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

A spokesman for both the fire and ambulances services said crews were still at the scene at 1.20pm today.

No other vehicle was involved.
