A HOTEL in Malvern has been named in the UK's top five places for a post-walk pint.

The Malvern Hills Hotel made the list - compiled by outdoor clothing and equipment firm Mountain Warehouse - after receiving public votes in an online campaign.

Derbyshire’s Holly Bush Inn claimed the overall title and the other spots in the top five were claimed by The Wasdale Head Inn in the Lake District, Clachaig Inn in the Scottish Highlands and Old Nells Canalside Tavern in Lancashire.

Mountain Warehouse described The Malvern Hills Hotel as a "hotspot for walkers and cyclists" that provides "a great place to rest following a long day exploring the hills".

It labelled the hotel "much-loved" for its "fantastic, locally-sourced food".

Jonathan Palmer, manager of the hotel, said: "Obviously we are absolutely delighted to have made the top five.

"The hotel is a great stop-off for anybody who has been out walking in the hills and needs a break for a pint, sandwich or meal.

"Our location close to British Camp is ideal for walkers.

"I'd put our success down to the quality of the food and drinks we offer and our hospitality and service, which shines through."

Mark Neale, founder of Mountain Warehouse, said: “The UK boasts an excellent variety of choices when it comes to post-walk pint locations, from centuries old spots to lively locals, there’s an endless array of choices.

"Our campaign aimed to unearth the lesser known spots, cherished by walkers across the country for their excellent locations, setting and offering.

"The Boxing Day walk is a much loved annual tradition across the country and what better way to end a strenuous stroll than with a visit to one of these outstanding pubs."
