AN investigation is underway after more than 400 properities were left without power in Evesham due to a "large" fire at an electric substation.
The fire broke out in Bewdley Street at around 6pm, and was attended by four fire crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
It left 418 properties without power, until 6am this morning (Sunday).
Western Power Distribution was also in attendance.
The fire service, from its official Twitter account, tweeted: "Large fire electric Substation Bewdley Street, Evesham.
"Four crews dealing with incident."
A spokesman for the service confirmed there were no casualties, but the public were evacuated from the area and nearby businesses were left without power.
It has been confirmed the town's Tesco supermarket had to be evacuated due to the loss of power, making it impossible for trade to continue as normal.
The fire was extinguished at around 10pm, after which work was carried out to restore power.
At around 6am, Wester Power Distribution tweeted: "Power supplies are now restored at Evesham and the WR11 area.
"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
An investigation in to the cause of the blaze is on-going.
