A MALVERN specialist who helps create sustainable communities has won a major title at the Social Enterprise West Midlands Awards.

Nick Comley, organisation development coach at Community First, beat candidates from across the region to secure the Social Enterprise Professional accolade.

He impressed judges with his dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to regenerating, sustaining and supporting rural and urban communities.

Among his achievements are helping social enterprises get funding, lobbying for faster rural broadband, community bulk-buying and helping village halls play an even greater role in local life.

Sallie Ryan of Social Enterprise West Midlands said: "“This is one of the biggest award ceremonies in our sector and it is only right that we recognise organisations, enterprises and individuals that are creating businesses that have a sustainable impact on the communities in which they operate.

“We had a record number of entries this year, showcasing tales of expansion, innovation, passion, community spirit and employee development. These are serious businesses, with clear strategies that are being delivered and helping to add wealth and jobs to the West Midlands.

“Nick is a highly respected figure in social enterprise and often goes beyond the call of duty to help communities in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The award is richly deserved."

Mr Comley said: “It was fantastic to be surrounded by some of the finest social enterprises in the West Midlands and even better that, on behalf of Community First, I was able to come away with one of the main awards.

“It is recognition for the amazing work our staff does in helping communities become more sustainable and prosperous in an ever-changing world.”
