A MILLION lonely older people in the UK can go a month without speaking to anyone.
Age UK has launched an appeal in partnership with John Lewis to tackle this problem.
The campaign features a video - an add-on to the Man On The Moon festive advert - that is narrated by Helen Mirren and calls for members of the public to support Age UK.
The charity's branch in Malvern is also getting involved and urging people to support its work to tackle loneliness
George Waugh, chief officer at Age UK Malvern and District, said: "Loneliness is a huge issue that affects people all year round however we know that the festive season can be a particularly difficult time.
"That's why we are also calling on the local community to join us in taking action.
"There are a number of ways you can help us tackle loneliness locally - by donating, volunteering and signing our petition you can help older people to enjoy the festive season and the year to come."
