A HISTORIC water feature in North Malvern will be decorated this weekend to mark All Souls' Day.

The Clock Tower in North Malvern Road will be decorated by members of Malvern Spa Association, who are urging local residents to remember loved ones.

The association organises the highly successful well dressing in and around Malvern each spring and in the autumn picks one water feature to be adorned to mark All Souls' Day.

Emma Chetwynd Jarvis of the well-dressing committee said: "I believe it's been done for a number of years and this year we've chosen the Clock Tower.

"We will be decorating it on Saturday lunchtime and the decorations will stay up until the following Saturday. During that time, there will be plenty of opportunity for the public to remember a loved one.

"There is always an interactive element - ribbons to tie on to remember a loved one, for instance - and this year we've chosen card leaves, on which people can write their dedications.

On All Souls' Day itself (Monday, November 2) at 11am, Emma Goldby, the curate of Holy Trinity Church, will perform a blessing ceremony at the clock tower.

The Clock Tower was originally built in 1843 on an already existing water tank, and increased in height in 1901.

In 2006 a major restoration project funded by Heritage Lottery money saw the water tank cleared of vegetation and its the Malvern stonework cleaned and repointed.

Inside the well room under the Clock Tower, a new spout was cut and a new decorative gate was installed.

Malvern Spa Association is a non-profit making, community organisation that was founded in 1998 to conserve, protect and restore the springs, wells, spouts and fountains of the Malvern Hills.
