UPTON'S Lloyds Bank will remain open, it has been confirmed.

The chief executive of the branch, António Horta-Osório, has made the assurances but ruled out revising its opening hours.

Earlier in the year, it was announced the bank would only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 3pm, leading to fears of an eventual full closure.

However, MP for the town Harriett Baldwin has confirmed those fears were unfounded, and a new cashpoint has also been installed in the town too.

She said: "I have raised local people’s concerns following on from a series of letters that I sent earlier in the year including asking Lloyds to investigate a frequent problem with the availability of the bank’s cashpoint machine.

"The chief executive assured me personally that the branch will remain open and that it has recently installed a new cashpoint machine to ensure that local people are able to access cash.

"I am told that the level of demand for services does not justify keeping the branch open throughout the week but the management is working with the local post office to make sure that people are able to offer banking services when they need them."

MP Baldwin wrote to Mr Horta-Osório earlier in the year to question the bank's opening hours also, as well as the availability of its cash point.
