POLICE have warned residents in Worcestershire to be wary of unexpected callers.

Legitimate salespeople, meter readers and suchlike will always make an appointment and a caller’s identification should always be checked before they are allowed inside.

Residents are advised to look through a door or window to see who is there before answering the door if no one is expected, and a chain or bar can offer an additional level of security.

Police have also said people should never feel pressurised into buying items on the doorstep and to be especially wary of callers offering home repairs or gardening.

Any crimes or suspected offences can be reported to police on 101. In an emergency always dial 999.

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
