A TEAM of motocross riders – including a teenage rising star – have raised almost £2,000 for the A&E department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

A two-stroke action day at Apex Motocross Practice Track in Worcester off junction six of the M5 on Friday, August 7 saw 142 riders entertain crowds, raising £1,911.54 for the department.

Among the riders was up-and-coming 13-year-old James Hanscomb, who has been making a name for himself in a number of national competitions in recent years.

The teen said: “It was a really great day, it was amazing to have so many riders taking part.”

Manager at Apex Motocross Lee Jones said he and his colleagues wanted to give something back to the department in thanks for the care riders had been given in the past.

“Unfortunately motocross does carry some risks,” he said. “Despite working hard to make our facility safe and having a medic around to treat minor injuries we do sometimes need to make use of our local A&E department.

“Everyone who has been treated there has been very well looked after.

“We know how hard the staff are working and this is just our way of saying thank you.”

Senior A&E sister at the Royal Kirsty South said: “We’re really grateful for the fantastic donation Apex Motocross has made.

“It will help us improve the comfort and experience of our patients in the department.

“It’s so nice for the team to be recognised for all the hard work we put into caring for our patients.”
