A NEPALESE man now living in Worcestershire whose home village was destroyed by an earthquake in Nepal is to return with the cash to help rebuild part of his village.

Gumbo Tamang now of Grangers Lane, Redditch with support from the community, friends and family has raised nearly £5,400 since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck on April 25, killing more than 8,000 people.

His village, Thulo Bharku located within the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa district to the north west of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border, was one of many badly damaged by the quake.

Mr Tamang, a 30-year-old father of one, who works as a catering assistant at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch was born and brought up in the village and his parents, dad Karpude and mum Rittu, still live there with his sister-in-law and her three children.

Hi sister-in-law had to flee the house with her children, a boy aged 11 and a girl aged just 14 months, as it collapsed around them.

His brother and sister were both in Kathmandu at the time but both survived the earthquake.

Mr Tamang is to return to his home village on November 9.

He said: "I will distribute rest of the fund to my parents and village. People are still facing a difficult time especially as it is during the monsoon and there is landslide on the road."

The money will be used to rebuild his parents' house with the rest being used to pay for the local school (stationery) and any leftover cash will go to repairing the rest of the village.

His family is now living in a shelter.
