STAFF and children at a pre-school near Malvern have been all smiles following the release of an Ofsted report labelling it "good" - the highest category.

Welland Preschool, based at the Pavilion, Marlbank Road, was inspected in May, and the report, just published, praises its "friendly, family atmosphere" that "promotes children's emotional development"

It also says that the youngsters "thoroughly enjoy their time at the pre-school" and "develop self-confidence and independence".

But it says the pre-school can improve by providing greater challenges for more able children, and improving literacy for younger children by arranging better story sessions.

Manager Amie Sauntson said: "We are so fortunate to have a fantastic team of staff all working together to provide the best possible care for the children. The inspector was very pleased with the setting and especially recommended our extracurricular activities that we provide, including PE, Woodland Wander, French and music sessions."

Lisa Millikin, chair of the pre-school committee said "We are extremely proud of our pre-school and are very pleased with the Ofsted report.

"The staff provide stimulating and enriching activities with just the correct level of support to allow the children to make progress, while maintaining a safe and happy atmosphere. I would recommend anyone looking for an Early Years setting for their child to come and have a look around."
