PEOPLE across Worcester are being urged to solve the mystery of an old clock which used to form part of the Cinderella sports ground pavilion - so it can be returned to its rightful place.

Last week we revealed how the demolition of the historic pavilion was stopped at the 11th hour in a rescue operation led by Avoncroft Museum.

Worcester City Council, which last week approved a bid for a new £365,000 pavilion to be constructed on the Bransford Road site, is talking with museum chiefs about taking the old historic structure away and putting it on display.

But former Worcester councillor Dave Clark, who led the campaigning efforts to save the pavilion from the bulldozer, is trying to find an old Kays clock which was fixated onto the apex of the site back in 2006.

Nine years ago, a mystery groundsman on the site took it down to avoid it being demolished when the pavilion was once again under threat.

Mr Clark says he is "delighted" about the museum's intervention but is appealing for help with the old clock.

"I had almost given up on saving the pavilion, I really had, so this is really wonderful news, I'm cock-a-hoop," he said.

"But the old Kays clock is still missing, I remember back in 2006 a groundsman was on the site and took it down.

"At the time I almost took it myself, but he said 'I'll put it in my shed and look after it', so at least it was in a safe place.

"At the time it was on the apex of the roof. That clock is the missing piece of the jigsaw, I'd like to find it."

At the time it was taken down the land was owned by Littlewoods Shop Direct, formally Kays, but has since changed hands.

The new £365,000 sports ground overhaul is a joint project by the Heart of Worcestershire College and city council, with the site leased from Arndale Properties.

Last week the council's planning committee agreed that any of the money earmarked for demolition should go to Avoncroft Museum to try and raise the structure off the ground and take it away.

Simon Carter, a director at Avoncroft Museum, has said the next step is to get a specialist building contractor in to see if it is feasible.
