THE community of Malvern Wells will be getting together on Sunday. June 7, to share a meal for the fourth year running.

The village is once again taking part in the Big Lunch project, promoted nationwide by the Eden Project as a way of bringing communities together for a shared meal on the first Sunday of June each year.

The first Big Lunch in the Wells was held in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's diamond jubilee and to mark the rededication of the village hall, which was originally built to mark Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee year.

It has since become an annual event, bringing together the Malvern Wells community for a bring-and-share buffet meal and the providing the opportunity fro everyone to get to know their neighbours better.

Ken Beecroft, one of the organisers, said: "Musical entertainment has been a feature of the previous lunches and 2105 will be no exception, with a guitar and banjo duo playing a selection of well-known and classic songs from the sixties onwards. Singing along will be encouraged.

"As in previous years, there is no charge to enter and no need to book. All people need to do is turn up with food to share with their friends, neighbours and fellow Wells residents.

"The village hall will be open from 12.30. and the lunch will start at 1pm and going on as long as people keep coming or want to stay. The Wells Club, on the lower ground floor of the village hall will be open to sell drinks and to provide additional seating.

Last year, the event raised about £160 for the Stroke Association, and this year, there will be a collection for St Richards Hospice.

The event is supported by Malvern Wells Parish Council and promoted by the village hall committee and the Wells Club.
