CLINICS run by a Worcester hospice for people with conditions such as Parkinson ’s disease as well as breathing, kidney or heart problems have secured funding for another year.

St Richard’s Hospice has been working alongside NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group to run the palliative outpatient clinics for patients with advanced conditions since 2011.

The hospice has now been awarded funding to continue the weekly clinics – which see patients, families and carers given specialised care and advice to help them both manage their conditions as well as plan for care at the end of their lives – for another year.

Medical director at the hospice in Wildwood Drive Nicky Wilderspin said she was pleased the clinics, which are attended by up to 10 patients every Monday, would be able to continue.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition and continuing funding.

“Patients attending the clinics, and their families, tell us that they have found the sessions very useful.

“The clinics offer continuing specialist treatment for their condition, offer the opportunity for patients to plan their end of life care and understand more about the services St Richard’s Hospice can offer them.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for more than 2,500 patients living with life-threatening conditions and their families every year.
