WITH the general election just 13 days away, the campaigns are in full swing, and posters advertising the various candidates festoon the town.

Gazette reader David Fawbert sent us this picture, showing a campaign poster boosting a rather different Conservative candidate to the current Tory hopeful.

Me Fawbert said: ""I snapped it today [Wednesday] having intended to do so every time I walked past it for more than a decade. It has been nestling in its secure position, sheltered both from the elements, and from the political turbulence that has reached current paroxysms.

"I wonder how many eagle-eyed readers know where to find it."

Michael Spicer represented the local constituency from 1974 until his retirement in 2010. The last election he contested was in 2005, so the poster is at least ten years old.
