A WOMAN who was on her way to stab her mother missed the bus and knifed a teenager instead.

Mary McKay, 32, who had recently watched a TV programme about the 9/11 terror attack, walked up to 17-year-old Asian Tarik Husan and stabbed him on the eve of the atrocity's anniversary.

Mr Husan's friend Sarbaz Kamil asked McKay why she had attacked and she replied: "You're all terrorists."

After knifing Mr Husan on Tollcross Road, Glasgow, on September 10 last year, McKay walked into a nearby shop, still clutching the knife, and waited for the police to arrive.

At the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, McKay admitted attempting to murder Mr Hasan by seizing hold of him and stabbing him repeatedly on the body.

Vinit Khurana, prosecuting, said: "During a police interview the accused said she had stabbed Mr Husan, who was wearing a NY' T-shirt, because he was a terrorist."

Later McKay said: "I hope the guy is dead.

I just stabbed a guy with the same colour of skin as a terrorist."

She added that she had wanted to stab her mum before she had seen the two men - one of whom had NY on his top.

The court was told Mr Hasan, who does not speak English, had a stab wound to the left side of his chest and one to his arm. He has made a good recovery although he is scarred for life.

Defence counsel Alan Nicol said: "She thinks what caused her to act this way was taking cocaine.

"Her intention was to take a 62 bus and stab her mother but she missed the bus and stabbed the complainer instead."

Judge Lord Menzies told McKay, who is also known as Carroll: "This was a violent attack on a complete stranger in the street with no logical motive. I am concerned there is a risk to the public."

He deferred sentence until next month until a risk assessment on the danger McKay poses to the public is carried out.

McKay is in custody.
