Election focus on green issues

10:10am Friday 16th March 2007

MALVERN residents can quiz politicians on what action they plan to take to tackle climate change and green and ethical issues.

A hustings has been organised in the run-up to May's Malvern Hills District Council elections.

Put together by Malvern Greenpeace, in association with the new Malvern Ethical and Green Alliance, it will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 7.30pm at Friends Meeting House, Orchard Road, Malvern.

Political parties have been invited and the Liberal Democrats, Conservatives and Greens have already indicated they are happy to attend.

Questions should be submitted in advance by Friday, April 13, so that a good range of issues can be selected.

The questions can be sent by email to election@mega.org.uk.

There will be an open session for further questions on the day but, as there is likely to be only limited time, people are encouraged to send their questions.

Hustings organiser John Howes said: "Climate change may seem like a huge issue well out of the remit of the local council, but we can all play a part in tackling the problem in our own particular way.

"The national political parties have been making the right noises, but now is the time to find out what our local politicians stand for and what they will actually do on the ground."
