AN INTREPID couple who drove 28,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina will recount their adventures at a charity event in Worcester.

Manuel and Jill Queiroz, of Pirton, who spent seven-months travelling on the Pan-American Highway, the world’s longest road, will tell tales and showcase photographs of their amazing journey.

The event, which takes place at St Peter’s Baptist Church, St Peter’s, on Saturday, March 7, at 7pm, will raise funds for two good causes – Macmillan Cancer Support and Hands, a charity which helps combat the trafficking of children in Northern Thailand.

Mr Queiroz, who is also a record-breaking round-the-world pilot, said: “It is really enjoyable to talk about the ultimate road journey and to do it in support of two charities is great.

“Hands is a cause very close to my heart because I saw the exploitation of children by unscrupulous people during the trip.

“Its work goes a long way to help protect children.

“I have also had cancer in the past so I have a connection with Macmillan too.”

He added that the “absolutely amazing” 24-hour sunlight in Alaska, the wildlife in the jungles of Central America and the Mayan and Incan cultures of South America were particular highlight of the journey, which was completed in a VW California camper van.

Tickets to the talk cost £10 including light refreshments and can be purchased from Carole or Tony Langford on 01905 425299.
