POWICK Community Choir has just completed a series of sell-out concerts in the majestic setting of Stanbrook Abbey, Callow End.

The 80-strong choir was accompanied by a 20-piece chamber orchestra of professional musicians.

The programme ranged from familiar seasonal works by Handel and John Rutter to more contemporary pieces composed by the choir's musical director Tom Wells.

Mr Wells said: "This was our fourth Christmas visit to Stanbrook Abbey and once again it was an occasion enjoyed by everyone. Choir members continue to respond brilliantly to every challenge I provide for them and this was no exception."

Proceeds of more than £1,000 from the three concerts will be be donated to Macmillan Nurses.

Rehearsals by the community choir begin again in early January and, as always, new members would be most welcome.

Mr Wells said: "I am looking for men and women who already have some experience of part singing and at least a rudimentary understanding music notation."
