A MALVERN great grandmother was surrounded by the four generations of her family, a telegram from the Queen and a card from former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith, when she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Angela White, who lives at Perrins House in Malvern, marked the milestone on November 29, with a private party for family and friends at the care home.

Born in Leamington Spa Mrs White moved to Malvern in 1956.

She went on to marry former Worcestershire County Cricket Club captain, Allan White, and the two had three children.

Mrs White, who was one of four children, was a mother and house wife before losing her husband in 1993 and moving into Perrins House in 2010.

Her 100th birthday was marked with the traditional telegram from the Queen but also a card from the Secretary of State for work and pensions Iain Duncan Smith, who wished her congratulations.

Maria Walker, manager of the care home, said Mrs White was a much loved resident.

"She is a delightful lady who enjoys life," she said. "And since she had her 100th birthday she has been really bright smile.

"She is a very sociable lady and very friendly. Mrs White is always grateful and appreciative of what we do as well.

"She had a fantastic birthday, the drawing room was filled with fresh roses and her family and friends came to celebrate with her.

"In their card they wrote, A White, 100 and not out."
