A SHIRT worn by Worcester City FC’s goalkeeper during the club’s glorious FA Cup win over Coventry has been auctioned for charity.

City star Nathan Vaughan put the top on eBay and the sale has raised more than £500 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

The item received 61 bids from 21 bidders and sold for £508.

Mr Vaughan said: “I have been astounded and overwhelmed by how much has been raised.

“When I originally put it on eBay I never expected the bidding to get so high – I can’t believe it really.

“The money is going to a good cause and hopefully it will make a big difference to people’s lives.”

The auction of the yellow and black shirt – complete with mud stains from the Ricoh – was won by Simon Bennett, of Kempsey.

He said: “I was really pleased to win it and my two boys were over-joyed too.

“The match against Coventry was brilliant, one of the best days I have had as a football supporter, and it will be amazing to own a piece of that FA Cup history.

“I thought it was a great gesture by Nathan to donate the shirt and the Royal British Legion is a fantastic cause for the money to go towards.”

The fan, who plans to frame the shirt and display it in his house, will receive the top on Saturday when Worcester City FC take on Barrow.

Mr Vaughan added: “Simon is going to have a great day on Saturday.

“I’ve arranged for him to come into the changing room and meet the players and staff, grab some photographs and get the shirt signed.

“I am sure he is really looking forward to it.”
