A TRIP into the loft of her new house left a mother-of-two pondering an intriguing mystery.

Nicki Baddeley discovered a set of beautiful, black-and-white wedding photographs in the attic of her 16th century Powick home and is seeking help from the public to identify those pictured.

The snaps were found in a box containing personal items including a lock of blonde hair, a bowling trophy and letters from the American embassy – a suitably bizarre assortment for what could be dubbed the Puzzle of Powick.

Mrs Baddeley said: “I'd really like to reunite the possessions with their owner.

“I recently got married and if I ever lost my wedding photographs I would be devastated, so I am eager to try and find out who they belong to.

“The whole thing has been fascinating. When I first uncovered the box I was confused as to why it had been left and then I began wondering whether the owners had to leave in a rush.

“I am really interested in history. It would be lovely to identify the people in the photographs and just brilliant if we could get them back to the rightful owners.”

The Powick resident, who moved into the rented historic house in February, added her landlord had no knowledge of the photographs.

However she had more luck with a friend from church, who recognised a man in the wedding snaps.

One of the males in the pictures is believed to be Mr Ellis, a villager who ran the Red Lion pub in Powick before leaving the area following his marriage to a police woman.

This insight matches details on the American embassy details but it is not known where the couple may have gone or if any of their family members still live locally.
