A TEAM of fundraisers from Malvern scaled the three highest peaks in Wales at the weekend to raise money for charity.

The four climbed Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales and Snowdon in north Wales, completing the feat in 14 hours and 26 minutes.

The team consisted of husband and wife Paul and Sheron Morton, Liz Stacey and Steve Rosenberg, and they began the challenge at about 3am on Saturday (September 13) at the foot of Pen Y Fan.

Mr Morton said: "There was a bright half-moon, so we could see very clearly and that was a great help getting us off to a good start, because we could see the path we were following."

The quartet strode on, transported by minibus between the three sites, until they finished at Snowdon that afternoon.

"The standard time for the challenge is 15 hours, so we're pleased to finish in under that. We were lucky with the weather: it was dry and not too hot or too cold," said Mr Morton.

The team celebrated finishing the challenge with a meal and a few pints at the bed-and-breakfast they were staying in on Saturday night.

He said the team wants to thank everyone who supported and sponsored them, and they have so far raised over £1,800 for the Anthony Nolan Trust, MIND and Leukemia Care.

He said that special thanks go to Kevin Mallet who drove the team during the challenge, and to Malvern firm RSM Ltd, which supplied the minibus.

He said: "We're very grateful that RSM supplied us with the minibus, because otherwise hiring one would have cost us something like £200, which would have made a significant difference to the fundraising. We're also grateful to the Gazette for publishing our appeal for the minibus."

Mr Morton's website at justgiving.com/Paul-Morton12 will remain open for two weeks to allow any further contributions.
