A WARRIORS star has thrown his muscle into tackling cancer as he helps a charity raise £20 million during a colossal coffee morning.

Wales International and last season's Worcester Warriors captain Jonathan Thomas will join thousands of people across the UK when they take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 26 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Worcester-based company Book O Tel are also championing Macmillan’s local fundraising this year. Owner and director Simon Scott and his son Nick joined in with the coffee scrum at the Warriors Sixways Stadium this week to help raise awareness of the fundraiser

Events are being held across Worcester on the day and anyone is welcome to attend the ‘open to the public’ World’s Biggest Coffee Mornings.

Worcestershire Macmillan Citizens Advice Caseworker Gill Cornwell is holding her own event as part of the national coffee morning.

She said: “It’s a great opportunity for the Macmillan Benefits advice team based here in Worcester to meet people who may need our financial guidance to help them access the support they need when affected by a cancer diagnosis. Many people aren't aware of the support we can offer, for free, and by supporting World’s Biggest Coffee Morning we hope to meet more people who need our help and expertise. All are welcome to attend our event and show support for people living with cancer.”

This is the 24th year of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and Macmillan hopes to beat the £20 million raised last year.

All the money raised will be used to help fund the charity’s vital services from specialist nurses and doctors, to grants and advice for people who have money problems because of their illness.

Those who want to support the fundraiser can come along to St John’s Community Centre between10am and noon on the day.
