HUNDREDS of people flocked to Priory Park in the centre of Malvern on Sunday to support the annual mayor's charity bonanza.

After an uncertain start weather-wise, the skied cleared, and revellers in the park basked in summer sunshine while listening to some top musical entertainment.

The championship-winning Forest of Dean Brass Band headlined the afternoon, with the Rock Choir and other performers, including Krescendo and Red Shoes, ably providing support.

And the event was such a success that at the end of the day, mayor Julian Roskams was able to announce that £900 had been raised for his two chosen charities - Age UK and Dementia UK.

Among the many entertainments of offer were face-painting with Shanti at Malvern Hills Gallery, balloon model-making with Looby Lou Parties) and circus skills, taught by by Jebb of Solo Circus

Drumming and dance workshops were both very popular, thanks to DrumLove and Dance in Motion, while others made kites with Planet Art.

West Mercia police were represented by community officer Karen Watson and Peeler the mascot, and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue’s duty watch brought a fire engine to wow the crowds.

Stalls like the the coconut shy, clown’s head, and the goldfish bowls all helped to fill the charities’ pot, along with money raised from rides on Laurence Harper’s original Victorian flying chairs, and donations taken by the entertainers and stallholders.

Cllr Roskams said: "Malvern Town Council and I would like to thank everyone who came to the Bonanza for their support, and the staff, volunteers, performers and traders who helped to make the event a success."
