IT’S time to dust off your walking boots and head for the hills to support injured service men and women.

The fourth Malvern Hills Challenge on Saturday, September 13 is a team or individual walk along the full length or half length of the stunning hills to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The full walk of 11km will start at Bromsberrow and will take around six hours to complete. The shorter 5km route, beginning at the Malvern Hills Hotel, will take between three or four hours to finish.

Although registration is at the Splash Leisure Centre car park in the centre of town, organisers will take participants to the start points by coach.

Tim Kidwell, Help for Heroes area organiser for Malvern said: “This is one more big push to complete a great year of fund raising in Malvern. What a fantastic year it has been for the weather, for Malvern and for Help for Heroes. Everyone has been so generous with their time and money. The Malvern Hills Challenge offers an ideal opportunity to round off the summer for families, for businesses, organisations and individuals to get out on the hills for an enjoyable and rewarding experience, as well as raising money for such a great cause.”

People can enter as individuals or form a team. Mr Kidwell is also appealing for marshals, organisers or guides and specialist helpers such as first aiders to help at the event.

“I have had fantastic help from Dave Lewis who is currently serving with the RAF at Brize Norton and has organised the previous Malvern Hills challenge events,” he added. “Gordon Waddell is a new volunteer and is a retired gunner and he has put together an excellent event information booklet. At the end of the challenge everyone will be able to enjoy a fete, barbeque and celebrations at the Rosebank Gardens finish and Mount Pleasant Hotel with medals for all participants.”
