ANNIVERSARY celebrations of the county's WI managed to raise over £4,500 for Worcestershire's Breast Unit Campaign.

Members of the Board of Trustees of the Worcestershire Federation of WIs met with consultant Steven Thrush to present a cheque for £4,628.

It will help fund a new life-saving dedicated breast care unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Last year, the WI in Worcestershire celebrated its 95th anniversary and decided to fundraise for the campaign.

Money was raised through a grand raffle and a collection held during a carol service in Worcester Cathedral in December which was attended by 1,000 people.

Christine Hickman-Smith, Federation chairman said: “We were delighted that the Worcestershire Federation was able to raise this amount of money to support the Breast Care Unit.

"We owe sincere thanks to local firms, businesses and members who added to our varied selection of prizes for the grand raffle which ranged from a Worcester Warriors signed Rugby ball to a handmade quilt.

"The carol service was supported by over 1,000 members and held in our beautiful Cathedral which we felt was a fitting finale to our 95th anniversary celebrations.”
