Help boost for ill boy

11:36am Friday 19th January 2007

PARENTS of a seriously ill boy say they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses.

Rachel and Nick Davies' eleven-month-old son Edward has rare genetic disorder, Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), which leaves him in need of 24-hour care.

The couple are hoping to raise funds and awareness to help Edward and other children with the condition.

Following a Malvern Gazette article last week, the couple have been inundated with donations to their appeal, and have already raised £1,000.

Bushwackers in Worcester has donated £750, and Mrs Davies said cheques had come from friends and neighbours, and even a lady who sent £10 of her pension money to help.

Prizes for a disco, raffle and auction event on Saturday, February 24, have also come flooding in.

These include tickets to a Worcester City football match, a meal for two, tickets for a box and meal at Worcester Rugby Club and a glider flight.

"We've had so many generous offers, and we'd love to keep them coming, especially the smaller raffle prizes," said Mrs Davies.

The CdLS charity received an extra boost thanks to Bonnie Langford, who donated her winnings from the television quiz show The Weakest Link to the charity at the weekend.

The fundraising event is at Blossomfield Cricket Club, Solihull, at 7.45pm. For details and donations, call 01684 899295.
