IN preparation for the new season, Upton RFC has drafted in a military-style boot camp to boost player fitness and performance levels.

Players were put through their paces at the first camp held on Thursday (10 July) by Throckmorton-based Xtreme Boot Camps.

Stuart Brooks, Upton RFC head coach, said: "We take our fitness seriously, but I wanted to challenge the players in what turned out to be a rigorous two hour outdoor session.

"We were really tested to the limit and hurting at the end, but it was thoroughly enjoyable."

Led by instructor James Evans, the players underwent a gentle warm-up comprising press ups, burpees, sit-ups, squats and sprints.

But in true military fashion, come last, players were told to do it again.

Next up was the bleep test, an hour of circuit training and with it, 16 exercise stations.

Xtreme Boot Camps runs regular weekly sessions in Upton-upon-Severn for anyone wishing to improve their fitness, lose weight and improve their lifestyle.
