Look out for elderly family and friends after increase in scams

FRIENDS and families of elderly people in Worcestershire are being urged to look out for them after an increase in distraction burglaries and bank frauds across the areas.

West Mercia Police is urging people to be aware of the risks following distraction burglaries, bogus cold callers and courier fraud particularly targeting elderly and vulnerable people.

The warning comes just weeks after an 89-year-old woman from Atherston was conned out of £100,000 by "callous" scammers posing as bank officials and police.

Police are advising people to be careful when opening their door to people and suggest these cold callers should be spoken to through a window or using a door chain.

The public are also being warned not to give out personal information or bank details over the phone. If there is any doubt, request a phone number from the person you are speaking with, hang up and contact police for advice.

If you have any concerns for yourself or a relative, friend or neighbour regarding scams, please call police on the non-emergency number 101.

To give information anonymously, contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111 or via the website www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Great, I'm glad Worst Farcia are yet again policing Warwickshire - perhaps the tax payers of Worcestershire, the area they're actually supposed to be doing what they laughably call policing, could have some service next?
