SCHOOL leavers across Wyre Forest arrived in style at their end-of-year proms.

Students of Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, Lacon Childe School, Wolverley CE Secondary School and Baxter College were dressed to impress to mark the occasion.

The proms are a celebration of the pupils’ time at the schools and a chance to unwind after weeks of exams.

Bewdley School, Baxter College and Wolverley CE Secondary School pupils turned out at West Midland Safari Park’s Spring Grove House while Lacon Childe pupils also had a night to remember at their school.

Baxter College were first to attend Spring Grove House, with student Taylor Hill pulling into the driveway, supported by a procession of bikes from Wolverley's Social Scooter Club.

Other students arrived at the prom in various vehicles including vintage cars, a tractor and even a double decker bus.

The prom featured a dance, a firework finale that spelt out the school’s name in fire and a free photo booth where students and staff enjoyed putting on fancy dress for the cameras.

Paula Taylor, head of year 11, said: “It was a lovely evening and a great way for everyone to celebrate the students’ time at Baxter.

"The students’ arrivals were as inventive as ever and I am sure the night will dwell long in the memory."

David Seddon, headteacher, said: “It was great to see so many smiling faces. Everyone had a brilliant evening."

Bewdley pupils turned out at the house a week later and similar to Baxter College its students arrived in vehicles including open-top sports cars, stretched limousines, motorbikes and a grand horse-drawn carriage.

Becky Newbold, director of specialism, said: “Everyone looked elegant and sophisticated. All the parents, carers and staff were so proud.”

Bewdley pupils celebrated the end of their GCSEs with a barbecue and awards ceremony, where director of learning, Sue Painter, gave out prizes in recognition of full attendance and achievement in subjects.

Mrs Painter said: “No longer do I look down to listen to them but look up and strain my neck to hear what they have to say.

“Apart from the obvious physical changes, the growth in their maturity has been amazing.

“Their positive approach to GCSEs has left me in awe.”

Wolverley CE Secondary School held their celebrations at the Tree Tops Pavilion at Spring Grove House with their entrance vehicles including an ice cream van, a boat and a fold-up bike.

The students organised the night themselves which saw headteacher, Bryn Thomas, showing off his break-dancing skills.

Mr Thomas said: "The prom was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by both staff and students alike.

"The students had shown great dedication in fundraising throughout the year to pay for the extra entertainment that they wanted and we are all very proud of their efforts."
