CANINE capers will be to order of the day on Sunday, June 22, when Malvern Link Common is the venue for a doggy fun day.

The event has been organised by White House Vets, of Newtown Road, as part of a fundraising drive for Hounds for Heroes, which provides assistance dogs for disabled service personnel.

The event starts at 2pm, with entries from 1pm, and among the attractions are a dog show, agility time trials, competitions and much more.

The vets' practice has already raised £2,800 for Hounds for Heroes, with practice founder Richard Chamings undertaking the Two Moors challenge and staff members Denise Jackson and Karen Honeywood running the Worcester Half Marathon earlier this year.

And now they hope Sunday's event will enable them to hit their target of £5,000.

Mr Chamings said: "We held our last doggy fun day three years ago, and it was a great success, Once again. we're raising money for Hounds for Heroes because it's a really good cause and we all support it."

The afternoon will also feature a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, refreshments, tombola and various other stalls, and hopefully a bouncy castle for the children.

"It's an afternoon not to be missed, and bring your dog along too," said Mr Chamings.

Hounds for Heroes provides specially-trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of the armed forces and emergency services.

The dogs are trained to help their owners by performing tasks such as opening doors, picking up items and even getting money from cash machines, and they also provide companionship.
