Council worker promotes town on television quiz

A COUNCIL worker got his five minutes of fame when he appeared on a television game show.

Pershore’s market town partnership manager Steve Knight even managed to use his turn on the BBC’s game show Pointless, which is hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman, to promote the town on Monday and Tuesday, June 2-3.

The 23-year-old Wychavon District Council employee applied last summer and had an audition in Birmingham before getting through to the competition filming at the end of last year.

Mr Knight said “They seemed genuinely interested that I worked for a district council at my age, and frankly I was thrilled at how much of my blurb on Wychavon, Pershore and the Plum Festival actually made the edit.

"A large part of my role is promoting the area so I’m really pleased I had the opportunity to talk about it on national television.”

However, Mr Knight was left a little red faced in auditions when contestants were asked to reveal an interesting fact about themselves.

He added: “The best I could come up with was that I once lay half naked in a bath of plums on Pershore High Street to promote the Plum Festival.

"The audience at the audition loved this, but I’m rather pleased to say I forgot to mention it in the live recording.”

Mr Knight was knocked out just before the final round of the competition.

A comment that is totally uncalled for.
