WORCESTERSHIRE'S fallen war heroes will be honoured in an emotive concert.

The event at the Guildhall on Saturday, June 28 has been organised by Worcestershire County Council in conjunction with Music 4 Heroes and the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Partnership in aid of Armed Forces Day.

The occasion will be made even more poignant as one of the pieces has been scored by ex-serviceman Robert Plant, who was a gunner who trained with 214 Battery, 104th Regiment Royal Artillery, 5th Division.

Colours was composed to highlight Armed Forces Day and in support of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, dedicated to those who stand to make the ultimate of sacrifices - those who serve and families of those who serve.

Mr Plant said: "It is an honour in itself to be able to score a piece of music for such a fitting concert but what has been most overwhelming is the collaboration, dedication and support for the Armed Forces Community throughout the organising of this event.

"It is a testament to the support this Country has for members of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and the Armed Forces Community both past and present.

"One of the great things about ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is the family approach applied by the organisation, offering assistance and support to families who have been involved in events from the Second World War right up to the most current of conflicts that the Armed Forces take part in today.”

Cllr Rob Adams, who chairs the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Partnership, said: "We are delighted to be able to support this Armed Forces Day concert which coincides with the second anniversary of the signing of the Community Covenant in Worcestershire."

"The Community Covenant encourages support for the Armed Forces Community working and residing in our County and recognises and remembers the sacrifices they have made."

"We are working in partnership to meet these aims and have so far supported a number of successful projects including notably We Did Our Bit which captured the video testimonies of 11 WW2 veterans from Worcestershire."

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5 from Worcester Tourist Information Centre or via worcestershirepartnership.org.uk.
