A DANCE development organisation has been commissioned to create a performance for a series of commemorative events to mark the outbreak of the First World War.

Dancefest, which is based at the Angel Centre, Angel Place, Worcester, is welcoming new dancers from Herefordshire and Worcestershire to take part in their Quiet Revolution to honour the centenary for Redditch, Bromsgrove and Wyre Forest district councils.

Two of Dancefest’s groups, Dancefest Creatives and DFA, will be working with choreographer Marie Oldaker to create a piece based on the lives and the changing roles of women during the First World War, as they discovered a new sense of purpose and liberation, despite enduring hardship and loss.

Dancefest Creatives is for people aged 18 and above who are interested in dance, choreography and performance.

No performance experience is necessary, just a passion for movement and the willingness to be creative.

DFA is a performance group for dancers aged 20 and over who have strong contemporary technique, are used to working creatively and have a sense of adventure.

Rehearsals take place at weekends starting Sunday, June 22 and Sunday, July 27 respectively, with the cost being £60 (concessions £48) for Dancefest Creatives and £15 for DFA.

The first performance is on Saturday, August 23 as part of Kidderminster Arts Festival.
