STAFF at Marks and Spencer on Malvern's Retail Park will be sitting in a bath of beans tomorrow (Saturday, June 7) to raise money for a good cause.

The store has recently chosen the Friends of Malvern Community Hospital as its charity of the year, and the bean event is just the first of a series of fundraising stunts staff hope will get the money rolling in.

Store manager Andy Oliver explained that the company has just changed its policy; instead of choosing one charity to be supported nationally, it now allows each branch to raise funds for a local cause.

"We has a ballot of the staff here, and the Friends came top. We now hope to raise at least £2,000 to purchase equipment," he said.

The fundraising events will continue throughout June, with staff becoming living mannequins next Saturday, June 14, a charity fete day with plenty of prizes to be won on June 21 and a bag-packing day and silent auction on June 28.

"Throughout the rest of the year we will be arranging at least one event a month and have already pencilled in a sponsored walk for July and a summer ball for August," Mr Oliver said.
