Dentist David pedals towards charity glory

A DENTIST from Malvern has completed an epic cycle challenge, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
David Watson of Beacon DentalCare in Malvern pedalled over 900 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End.
Mr Watson was one of some 20 cyclists taking part in the charity ride organised by Denplan, the dental payment plan specialist.
The team set out on Saturday, May 10, and finished ten days later. Donations are still flooding in and the riders have already smashed their target of raising £30,000 for Macmillan, with the total heading rapidly towards £40,000.
Mr Watson, a principal dentist at Beacon DentalCare, said: "I still can't work out how I managed to finish the ride, though I'm so glad I did.
"The hardest part was the mental challenge of keeping myself motivated everyday, especially as I experienced a lot of pain in my knees and neck throughout the journey.
"I tried to use the visualisation techniques I'd learned from a friend to keep me going, and in doing so, learned that I can push myself and my body much further than I originally imagined.
“The feeling when we finally arrived at Land's End was amazing, though it took a few days to really sink in. I'm so pleased that I took part in the ride and helped to raise money for such a fantastic charity.
"I've made some life-long friends who helped me through the bad days and inspired me to keep going when the enormity of the challenge almost seemed too much. I'm eternally grateful to everyone who has donated their time, money and support to help me complete this spectacular endeavour I couldn't have done it without you."
