SUNDAY rail users will have to brace themselves for a summer of disruption as vital maintenance work is carried out on lines running through Worcester and Malvern.

Between June and September, Network Rail will be replacing ballast and carrying out points maintenance work on the stretch of railway between Bromsgrove and Hereford.

On Sundays from June 2 to September 7, trains between Birmingham and Worcester will not be running on the Bromsgrove line, but will be diverted via Kidderminster and Stourbridge. Buses will link Bromsgrove with Droitwich, connecting with trains to Worcester and Birmingham.

On Sundays between August 2 and 17, no trains will run between Worcester and Hereford, with replacement bus services provided.

On Sunday, August 24, trains will be back on the Bromsgrove line, but will not be able to call at stations beyond Worcester. Bus replacements will be in operation on the line to Hereford, running through Malvern and Ledbury.

A rail service spokesman said: "These may be subject to short-notice alterations, so I would strongly recommend prospective passengers check their train times before travelling, especially if their journey involves travelling on any part of a weekend, or a late evening weekday service."
