A SECURITY guard has been robbed of cash while delivering money to a store in Malvern.

The victim was outside Marks and Spencer on Roman Way around 10.45am yesterday when he heard someone shout 'Watch out' at him.

Startled, he dropped the cash box which was picked up by an unknown man who ran off with it to a waiting car - possibly a blue Saab 93 - which was driven off by another person.

A short time later a Saab matching the description was found in nearby Spring Lane, while the cash box was found empty and discarded opposite the petrol station on Sandys Road.

It is not known how much money was stolen by the offenders.

“Although shaken by this incident the security guard was not physically harmed as a result of it," said a police spokesperson.

“The incident happened very quickly but the security guard has been able to give brief descriptions of the man that took the cash box and the man driving the car.

“The man who stole the cash box is described as being white and as wearing a grey hooded top, while the male driver of the vehicle is said to have been wearing a black beanie hat.

“We’d like to reassure people that incidents of this nature are extremely rare but would ask anyone who believes they may have information about it to come forward as soon as is possible."

The spokesperson said anyone who witnessed the robbery, or who may have seen the Saab being dumped on Spring Lane or the cash box being discarded on Sandys Lane, should contact them.

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 201S 260514.
